Leif G Carlson

Leif Gerald Carlson, 74 of Delta Twp., passed away on August 7, 2025, in Lansing, MI. Born on March 13, 1951, in Stambaugh, MI, the son of George and Alice (Anderson) Carlson.

Leif's journey began in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where he was a true "Yooper" at heart. He carried the spirit of the North throughout his life, graduating from West Iron County High School and went on to attend Northern Michigan University. Leif's career in Sales for Sound Engineering was a testament to his skill and dedication, culminating in his role and continued for F.D. Hayes Electric Company. His professional accomplishments were paralleled by his personal commitment to his family's farm in Iron River, MI, which he owned with his beloved brother, Kurt. Together, they maintained the land and cherished their time at hunting camp, a tradition that brought them closer to nature and to each other.

Leif's love story with his wife, Carol, spanned over 30 years, and together they built a life filled with joy and laughter. Their family blended and included children Erik (Brooke) Carlson, Megan (Shawn) Scarborough, and Steven (Jeannie) Shamka, all of whom brought immeasurable pride to Leif's life. He was a doting grandfather to Andrew and Ella Carlson, Drake Hensley, Addelyn Scarborough, Jesse and Scott Shamka, and Sarah (Adam) Tracy and Elizabeth (Anthony) Campitiello. The joy of his family circle expanded with the arrival of great-grandchildren Halli and Nico Campitiello, Caroline and Waylon Tracy.

Leif was a man of many interests, from his avid support of the Green Bay Packers to his love for reading, especially the daily newspaper. His intellectual curiosity was matched by his sense of adventure, as he and Carol enjoyed cruising to new destinations, embracing the beauty and cultures of the world. He was a man who cherished the simple pleasures in life, such as the tranquility of the woods during hunting season and the companionship of his extended family by love, Charles (Linda) Shamka.

Leif's legacy is carried on by his brother, Kurt (Sharon) Carlson; sister, Kristine (Rick) Mack; brother-in-law, Jeff (Kolleen) Hunt; and sisters-in-law, Susan (Larry) Weismiller and Linda Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alice (Anderson) Carlson, and brother-in-law Marion Taylor.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel, 301 E. Jefferson, Grand Ledge, MI. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 11 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the service at Mills Funeral Home.
