Catherine Sue Ames, known affectionately as Cathy to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024, in Oklahoma City, OK, at the age of 69. Born on October 7, 1955, in New Orleans, LA, Cathy's journey through life was marked by an unwavering spirit of adventure and a generous heart that touched everyone she met.
Cathy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ken Ames, with whom she shared many cherished moments and adventures. She is survived by her devoted sisters, Trixie Walther (Eric) and Patty Hickson (John). Cathy's legacy as a loving stepmother will be carried on by West Williams (Cecilia), Patience Carello (Patrick), and Jerimiah Ames (Kristy), whose lives were enriched by her nurturing presence. Her grandchildren, Olivia and Luc Williams, Kalei and Breauna Carello, and Aspen Ames, will forever hold onto the joyful memories and life lessons imparted by their adoring grandmother. Cathy's nieces, Stefanie Hanson (Greg) and Lindsay Day, and nephews, Trey Hickson (Allison) and Ben Hickson (Caroline), will miss her, as will her great-nephews, Parker, Johnny, and Theo Hickson, and great-niece, Paige Hickson.
Cathy's professional life was defined by her role as Supervisor at the Department of Rehabilitation Services, where she demonstrated an unwavering commitment to empowering others. Her colleagues will remember her as a passionate leader who brought out the best in her team and served her community with dedication.
An adventurous soul, Cathy's love for the Island of Newfoundland, where she grew up, was a testament to her connection with nature and her fondness for the simpler pleasures in life. She often spoke of the island's rugged beauty and took every opportunity to return to its shores, finding solace in the crashing waves and the solitude of the landscape.
Cathy's interests were as varied as they were rich; she was an avid gardener whose hands could turn any patch of earth into a vibrant oasis. As a great cook, she delighted in preparing sumptuous meals for her family and friends, often using ingredients from her own garden. Her love for reading was only matched by her passion for windsurfing-a pursuit that combined her love for the beach with the thrill of the sport.
Friends will recall Cathy's generous spirit, not only in her willingness to share her home and heart but also in the wisdom she imparted. She was a person who lived her life with passion, always seeking out new experiences and embracing each day with gratitude.
Cathy's passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew her, but her spirit will continue to inspire. She will be remembered as a woman who loved deeply, and who found joy in the simple act of giving. Her adventurous nature, her passion for life, and her generosity have left an indelible mark on this world.
As we bid farewell to Cathy, we celebrate a life well-lived-a life filled with laughter, love, and the pursuit of happiness. Her story is one of a journey well-traveled, and she will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. May her memory be a beacon for us all, guiding us to live our lives with the same courage and kindness that she demonstrated every single day.
