Catherine Breckinridge (Tirado), 72, of Bethel, CT, passed away on February 11, 2025, in Bethel, CT. She was born on October 19, 1952, in Brooklyn, NY, to Gilbert Tirado and Isabel Romero Tirado.
Catherine was a dedicated registered nurse who spent her life serving others. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Michael Breckinridge, and her children: Raquel Altuglu (Murat), Daniela Breckinridge (Juan Pablo Tumipamba), and Rebecca Stewart (Oraine). Catherine was a proud grandmother to Daniel and Jonathan Altuglu, Liam Caleb, Eliana, Mia Tumipamba, Josiah, and Gabriella Stewart. She is also survived by her siblings: Dr. Diane Lampert, Ruth Hamill, John Tirado, Barbara Warnasooriya, and David Tirado.
Those who knew Cathy knew her heart was to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. Whether discipling people on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Poplar Montana, witnessing to Cuban and Central American refugees in Canada and helping them transition to life in a new country, preaching in women's prisons in Washington County, Maine, or serving on medical mission trips around Latin America, Cathy worked fervently and tirelessly evangelizing to others. Her work as a nurse to migrant workers in rural Maine eventually led her to start a ministry, Open Heart Evangelical Ministries, whose mission was to bring the gospel to migrant workers and help provide for their basic needs. She was also a faithful Sunday school teacher for many years, and was passionate that children be Bible- and gospel-literate from an early age.
Additionally, Cathy enjoyed traveling, learning about different cultures, reading, cooking, and hosting. She was also known for her beautiful singing voice, and would often sing during evangelical outreaches. She loved people and was gifted in counselling others. Overall, Cathy was happiest serving and sacrificing for others.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 10:00 at Cornell Memorial Home in Danbury, CT. A service will follow on February 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
