Catherine Crabtree

Visitation and viewing for Catherine Elaine Crabtree, 92 of Abernathy, TX will be held Saturday, October 25th, 2025 from 10:00-11:30am at Abell Funeral Home. Private burial will be held in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy, TX.
Catherine passed peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on October 18, 2025. Catherine was born August 27, 1933 to Otey and Frona Mae Shadden of Cotton Center, Texas. She graduated from Cotton Center High School in 1951 and married Wayne Crabtree of Quitaque, Texas on March 9, 1952. They raised their children, Thresa and Gary, on the Shadden family farm in Cotton Center.
Catherine is remembered by many for her competitive nature, her cooking, and her endearing love for her family. She rarely lost a tennis match, she was no stranger to hard work, and she always showed up with cheese rolls and a pie or two. She also loved her grandkids and great grandkids dearly and talked about them to everyone. Despite her many talents and fierce love, she could not park her car between two lines if her life depended on it.
Catherine is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Crabtree, son Gary Crabtree, son-in-law, Ronnie Rieff, parents Otey and Frona Mae Shadden, siblings Lynn Shadden, Jimmy Shadden, and Donna Powell, as well as many other extended family members and beloved friends.
Catherine is survived by her daughter Thresa and husband Kelly Cummings, brother Otey Shadden, daughter-in-law Karen Crabtree, grandchildren Kristie and husband Shaun Hurley, Travis Rieff and wife Ashley, Tiffany Williams, and Daniel Crabtree, her great grandchildren: Ethan, Carson, Brooke, Pierce, Grayson, and Trace, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
