Catherine George Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Douglass Funeral Service on Feb. 6, 2026.
Amherst, Ma: Catherine Betty George, 94, of Amherst, Massachusetts, formerly of Walton, New York, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning of February 5, 2026. "Betty" was born on May 12, 1931 in Peckville, PA to Harleigh and Lillian (Hough) Mahoney, the youngest of three children. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Ivan George, her parents, her brother, Jack Mahoney, and her sister Marian.

Betty will always be remembered as a great mother to not only 10 kids of her own, but to countless others as well, a prayer warrior who touched heaven on behalf of everyone she knew who had a need, and loved to worship the Lord her God. Her favorite times were spent with family, cooking, baking, singing, and praying. It is because of her, that whenever we gather at a family reunion, we lift our hearts and voices in songs of praise. "When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be."

She is survived by her 10 children - Dan (Debi) George of Cedar Springs, MI; Dave (Cindy) George of Bergen, NY; Paul (Darlene) George of Greenfield, IN; Sharon (Vern) Cowherd of Edmond, OK; Don (Terri) George of Mebane, NC; Tim (Quanee) George of East Lynn, IL; John (Carol) George of Walton, NY; MaryAnne George of Grand Rapids, MI; Steve (Amber) George of Palmer, AK; and Catherine (Cliff) Wilkinson of Amherst, MA; 31 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

Celebration of Life services are being planned both locally in March at Christ Community Church in Belchertown, as well as in May at the First Baptist Church in Walton, NY.

Details will be forthcoming.
