Sister Catherine Bellamy Gillari, a lifetime
resident of Prichard, AL, was born August 7,
1933 to the union of Willie James Bellamy and
Rillie Riggins Bellamy in Mobile, AL. She
departed this earthly life on Thursday, July 31,
2025.
Catherine was a faithful member of Greater Pine
Grove A.M.E. Church. At an early age she gave
her life to Jesus Christ and started working on
her soul salvation, her journey into Heaven to be
with God the Father and Son Jesus Christ. She
served in many capacities in the church: Sunday
School Teacher, Steward, Class Leader, Trustee, Secretary, Choirs,
Announcer and Layman..
Catherine Bellamy attended Mobile County Training School, and a
member of the graduating Class of 1950. She continued her education
attending Alabama State University, where she earned her Bachelor
Degree. She also attended University of South Alabama, Auburn
University and Springhill College. Catherine taught school at
Toulminville High School and Theodore High School. While at
Theodore High School, she was Teacher of the Year, President of the Jr.
Civitan Club, Chairman of the English Department, etc.
One of Catherine's most memorial accomplishment was the Director and
Writer of the Musical Drama "The Gospel Train!"
She was preceded in death by her parents: Willie Bellamy, Dave and
Rillie Clyburn; brothers: Morris Clyburn and Willie James Bellamy;
sisters: Deloris Jones and Ruth Bellamy; ex-husband, Nathaniel Gillari.
Catherine leaves to cherish her legacy and precious memories, her son,
Marvin (Michelle) Gillari; daughter, Ladahlie Gillari all of Mobile, AL;
brother, Freddie (Donna) Clyburn of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren
and eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews,
godchildren, cousins, other relatives and friends; devoted friend, Annie
Crandle; faithful caregiver, Marilyn Wilson; devoted cousins: Leona
Jackson and Louvenia Henry; loving godson, Earl Chatman; and
goddaughter, LaGretta Campbell.
