Maudette Anice Crishon Witherspoon was born on June 24, 1948 in Mobile, Alabama and was the oldest of twin girls to the late Alfred and Vera Mosley Crishon. She departed this life on October 5, 2025 surrounded by family.

She was raised and baptized as a Christian at Bethel AME Church. While at Bethel AME she served on the Alert Board. She also attended Little Flower Catholic Church. She married the love of her life, Rev. Dan Witherspoon, II on September 5, 1971.

Maudette was a graduate of Williamson High School. She earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Economics in 1970. While at Alabama A&M University she was initiated into the Gamma Mu Chapter of Alabama Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc in 1970. She later obtained her Masters of Early Childhood Education from the University of South Alabama. Maudette loved education and knew the importance of education. She was a retired educator of Mobile County Public School System, Strickland Youth Center, and Archdiocese of Mobile Catholic Schools. She was a Golden member of the Delta Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Dan Witherspoon, II.

She lives to cherish her memories her devoted and loving children: Dan Witherspoon, III and Danette (Dr. Derrick) Scott; granddaughters: Damia Anice Scott and Deria Alyce Scott; sisters: Antoinette C. Holmes, Evelyn Crishon, Sharon M. Parker, Vera C. Anthony; sisters-in-law: Bernadette W. Johnson and Shirley Witherspoon; devoted friend: Patricia W. Carstarphen and devoted god daughter, Carolyn Wynn and a host of nieces, nephews, bonus grandchildren, godchildren, family and friends.
