Catherine Gray

Catherine Smith Gray passed away at home in Paragonah, Utah, on November 3, 2025, from complications relating to carcinoid syndrome. She was 75 years old. She was born on November 11, 1949, to Vernon Dale Smith and Murriel Sorensen Smith in Logan, Utah. She grew up in Millcreek, Utah. During her early life she worked at Millcreek Gardens, a garden center founded by her father. She attended Granite High School, graduating in 1967, after which she attended Brigham Young University where she met her husband, David.
Trina married David Gray on August 20, 1970, after a lengthy five-month courtship. They recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
Trina was well-known in her community for her volunteer work, for her time as a founding member (and chair) of the White City Community Council during the 1980s, and for her service in Paragonah with Planning and Zoning. She was very active in her church, serving as a Primary teacher and in the Primary Presidency. She was also actively involved in UNLA and related organizations. She was an owner of Parowan Valley Turf farm, managing the office and making sure the orders were placed and the turf arrived where it was supposed to. For many years she sang with the Southern Utah Heritage Choir, traveling to places like Mexico and China.
Trina is survived by her spouse, David Gray, and her 7 children: Russell (Cathy), Millcreek Utah; Carol Herrin (Dan), Provo, Utah; John (Lizzie), Twin Falls, Idaho; Daniel (Teela), Paragonah; Robert, Salt Lake City; Elizabeth Kregar (John), Grand Junction, Colorado; and William (Jordan), Maryland. Trina had thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Murriel, her brother Eric, and her father Vernon.
Funeral services will take place on November 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., at the LDS meetinghouse located at 79 North Main Street in Paragonah, Utah.
