Catherine A. Hoban, known affectionately to friends and family as Cathy, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, at the age of 87 in Goshen, NY, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on September 17, 1937, in New York, NY, Cathy was the cherished daughter of Cornelia M. Campbell and Joseph C. Taylor. She brought joy and light to all who knew her, living a life marked by kindness, creativity, and an unwavering sense of optimism.
Cathy's journey through life was characterized by her devotion to her family and her faith. She shared a loving marriage with her husband, Francis S. Hoban, and together they raised three wonderful children-Elizabeth A. Hoban and her partner Michale Finn, Patricia Hoban-Rich and her husband James Rich, and Brian Hoban. Her love and wisdom were a guiding force in the lives of her grandchildren, Jack Rich, Patrick Rich, Molly Hoban, Finn Hoban, and Gannon Hoban, all of whom will carry forward her legacy of compassion and grace.
A proud graduate of Cathedral High School in New York City, Cathy's intellect and work ethic led her to a successful career as an executive secretary at Raytheon Manufacturing in Tewksbury, Mass. Later, she served as a New York Police Communications Specialist, a role in which she displayed exceptional dedication and professionalism until her retirement. Cathy's colleagues will remember her as a supportive and integral member of their teams, who approached every task with meticulous care and a cheerful disposition.
Cathy's Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and solace through every season. She lived her beliefs through acts of service and love, creating a warm and welcoming home for all who entered. Her spirit of generosity extended beyond her family to touch the lives of those within her community.
An avid gardener, Cathy found tranquility and joy in the simple act of nurturing plants and flowers, her garden serving as a testament to her patience and attention to detail. Her hands, equally skilled in sewing, crafted beautiful garments and keepsakes that will be treasured for generations. Cathy's artistic talents were further expressed through her love of writing poetry and songs-gifts that revealed the depth of her soul and her ability to capture the essence of life's moments.
Friends and family will remember Cathy as the epitome of kindness, a woman whose creative spirit and optimistic outlook inspired everyone she met. Her laughter was infectious, her advice invaluable, and her presence a source of comfort and happiness. Cathy's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, faith, and creativity, a life that will be celebrated and remembered by all who were fortunate enough to have been a part of it.
Cathy's departure leaves behind a void that can never be filled, but her spirit will continue to live on through the memories she created and the love she shared. As the seasons change and flowers bloom, we will be reminded of Cathy-a woman who planted seeds of joy and kindness in the hearts of everyone she encountered. Her story does not end here, for she has left an indelible mark on this world that will resonate for years to come.
