Catherine F. Mercadante, a cherished soul known for her loving, kind, and generous spirit, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. Born on a crisp winter day, February 27, 1937, in the bustling borough of Queens, NY, she was the beloved daughter of John Kruse and Rose Cavalaro Kruse. Catherine's vibrant life spanned 88 fulfilling years, marked by devotion to her family, her passion for helping others, and a career that reflected her nurturing nature.
Catherine's journey began in the heart of New York, where she grew up surrounded by the love and warmth of her parents. Her early life in Queens laid the foundation for the remarkable woman she would become. As she matured, her inherent desire to care for those around her led her to a life of service. She dedicated many years to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she worked as a Nurse's Aide, touching countless lives with her compassion and care.
In a celebration of love, Catherine joined hands in marriage on March 3rd, 1957 with her soulmate Ralph Mercadante, whose companionship and support enriched her life immeasurably. Together, they built a life filled with joy and cherished memories. He predeceased her on March 1st, 2011. Catherine's legacy is carried on by her devoted daughter, Rosemarie C. Mercadante, who embodies her mother's grace and kindness. She also leaves behind a legacy of love with her mother, Rose Kruse. Catherine's father, John Kruse, predeceased her, leaving a treasury of cherished memories in the hearts of those who loved him.
Catherine's life was a testament to the adage, "To the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you may be the world." Catherine is survived by her children Tina and son-in- law John; daughter, Rosemarie and son-in-law, Wayne; daughter, Catherine; son, Ralph; daughter, Donna; granddaughter, Heather and her husband, Sean; grandson, Nicholas and great grandson, Paul.
Catherine's life was a beautiful portrait of love in action. Her unwavering kindness, her boundless generosity, and her loving nature will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
