Newcomer Funeral Home - Northeast Chapel - ColumbusCatherine Marie (McVey) Morock, a woman whose boundless joy, generous spirit, and infectious laughter brightened every room, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at the age of 77. Though she faced a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease, Cathy’s indomitable spirit, warmth, and love for life remained a guiding light for her family and friends.
Cathy, as she was affectionately known, leaves behind her beloved husband of 60 years, Joseph Morock. Their enduring love story began with a spirited decision to marry at the tender age of 17, a testament to her adventurous heart and unwavering devotion. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three loving children: Michelle (Robert) Fenstermaker, Christina (Duke) Jensen, and Matthew Morock.
Her grandchildren—Katie, Jack, Megan, Ryan, and Brandon—were the absolute joys of her life. They will forever cherish countless treasured memories of their adventures with Grandma, often punctuated by her favorite "grandma-ism," "Woah Nellie!" Cathy is also survived by her younger brother, Tim McVey, and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Marie McVey, her sister Patricia Goodwin, and brother Michael McVey.
Cathy's home was a true hub of hospitality, always filled with laughter, delicious food, and open arms. Renowned for her legendary St. Patrick's Day celebrations and heartwarming holiday gatherings, she possessed an unparalleled gift for making everyone feel like family. Indeed, she never met a stranger and embodied the very essence of welcoming warmth.
Her proud Irish heritage was a cornerstone of her identity. She was a dedicated member of the Columbus-based Daughters of Erin and found immense joy as an Irish Dancer with the Columbus Celtic Dancers. She traveled the country competing in "feiseanna" (Irish dance competitions), sharing countless cherished moments with her closest dancing friends, and notably, with her daughters Michelle and Chris and granddaughters Katie and Megan, who proudly followed in her dancing footsteps.
Cathy approached both her professional and volunteer endeavors with enthusiasm and dedication. She cherished her years at Bishop Watterson High School, where she made lifelong friends while working bingo and later serving as the beloved head of the cafeteria. Her commitment continued at Riverside Methodist Hospital, where she expertly led and managed the physicians' dining room, retiring after 29 years of devoted service.
All are welcome to celebrate Cathy's remarkable life on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Newcomer Cremations, Funeral & Receptions, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, OH 43231. Visitation from 2:00-3:30 p.m. followed by a short service from 3:30-4:00 p.m.
