Catherine Ann (Buhite) Ober, 74, DuBois, passed away May 11, 2023 at Christ the King Manor.
Born June 5, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Helen L. (Kantor) Buhite.
On March 15, 1975, she married H. Laird Ober II at the Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Sykesville by Father Francis McCullough. Her husband survives.
Cathy graduated from DuBois Central Catholic High School in 1966. She went on to earn her B.S. in Education from Penn State in 1970 and her master's from Clarion State College. From 1970-2002, Cathy was employed as a first grade teacher at Juniata Elementary School (DuBois Area School District). She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Reynoldsville where she was a former Eucharistic minister, Rosary Society, and Catholic Daughters of America, as well as the originator of Mary's Hands. The purpose of the Mary's Hands committee, under the direction of Msgr. Mignot, was to serve and enrich the lives of people of St. Mary's parish and the surrounding communities by focusing on seven areas of ministry: prayer, Eucharistic, hospitality, emergency needs, visitation, food pantry, and bereavement.
In addition to her husband, Cathy is survived by her sister-in-law, Phoebe L. Snyder, her niece, Dawn. I (Jamie) Howell, and a great-niece, Olivia Howell, all of Rockledge FL, numerous cousins, and her cat, Mindy.
Cathy was preceded in passing by her parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as several aunts and uncles.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 3-7 p.m. from the Adamson Funeral Chapel and Crematorium. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Reynoldsville on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Matias M. Quimno and Msgr. Charles Kaza as co-celebrants. Burial will be in the Holy Trinity Byzantine Cemetery in Sykesville.
