Catherine Sargent Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 5, 2026.
Catherine Julia Sargent, 72, of Hillsborough, NH passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 28th. She was born in Beverly on November 6th, 1953, to the late Joseph V. and Veronica M. (McParland) Sargent. She graduated from Hamilton Wenham Regional High School. After high school, she began working at Almy's department store with her mother, before moving on to become a bank teller. Beginning at Beverly National Bank, and retiring with M&T Bank, she became a familiar and trusted face that customers looked forward to seeing.

She was a devoted member and treasurer of Spacetown Beagle Club, where early mornings in dew-covered fields brought her endless happiness. Among friends and family, hounds, and the steady rhythm of tradition, she found not only sport but belonging. She cherished the camaraderie of the club, the stories shared over tailgates, and the thrill of watching determined little beagles do what they were born to do. Her dedication, encouragement, and warm laughter became as familiar to fellow members as the sound of beagles baying across the grounds.

At home, her quieter passions flourished. She was an avid reader who believed there was no problem with a good book and a cup of tea that couldn't soften. Her shelves told the story of her curious mind; well-loved novels, dog-eared mysteries, and westerns marked with thoughtful notes. Reading was her daily ritual, her window to the wider world.

Her hands were rarely still. Through knitting, she created more than scarves and sweaters; she crafted comfort. Each stitch was made with care, often destined for anyone in need of warmth. Family members will forever treasure the handmade gifts that wrapped them not only in wool, but in her love.

In her later years, she found simple joy in the quiet rhythm of a solitaire game on her phone, delighting in each small victory and playful challenge. It was a pastime that suited her patient spirit and sharp mind. Yet nothing brought her greater happiness than her grandchildren. She treasured spending time with them every single day; whether sharing stories, watching movies, or simply sitting side by side. Her love for them was constant and unwavering, and the moments they shared became the heart of her days and the legacy of warmth she leaves behind.

Catherine is survived by her beloved granddaughter and great-grandson, Julia Sargent and Vincent Sargent of Hillsborough, NH; sisters, Elizabeth Wright of Hooksett, NH; Veronica Sargent of Gloucester, MA; brother Joseph Sargent of Ipswich, MA; along with nephews, many cousins, and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her dear son, Robert J. Sargent.

Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at The Church of Saint Paul, South Hamilton on Friday, March 13th, at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be at Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton. Information, directions, condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com .
