KINGSPORT - Catherine Traylor died quietly in the early morning hours of October 7, 2024 at The Waters of Kingsport. She was a native of Churchview, Virginia, daughter of Lucy Booker Moore and Thomas Walker Moore. From 1962 to 2015, she made her home in Fayetteville NC, moving to Fuquay Varina NC in 2015 to be close to her son, Glenn; then in 2019 to Kingsport TN to be close to her daughter, Loni.
She was preceded in death by her husband, of 57 years, Wilbur E. Traylor, her parents and two brothers. She is survived by five children and their spouses, Sarah Gullick and husband Roy of Greenville, S.C., Loni Garcia and husband Michael of Kingsport, Tenn., Glenn Traylor and wife Janet of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Garret Traylor and wife Cheryl of Trinity, NC, and Michael Traylor and wife Rhonda of Charlotte, NC; ten grandchildren, Bryan Gullick and wife Heather of Cary, NC, Jessica Granger and husband John of Greer, SC, Paul Traylor of Fukuoka, Japan, Rachael Morales and husband Luke of Winston-Salem, NC, Emily Garcia of Kingsport, Rebecca Hunt and husband Matthew of High Point, NC; Susannah Burley Traylor of Greensboro, NC, Preston Nash and wife Stephanie of Madison, Ga., Nathaniel Nash, and Megan Belk and husband Anthony of Matthews NC; seventeen great-grandchildren Elizabeth, James, William, and Charles Gullick of Cary, NC, Jackson, and Noah Hunt of High Point, NC, Ethan, Jack, Rosemary, Elinor, and Levi Morales of Winston-Salem, NC; Landon, Ava, and Aubrey Nash of Buford, GA; Cougar Nash of Charlotte NC; Nash and Charlotte Belk of Matthews NC; and two more due later this year.
She was an amazing mother of five; one of the world's great housewife-mothers. She was her husband's "right hand man", helping him with every project he pursued. She was a beloved member of First Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville NC where she was known for her photographic documentation of activities, and recipient of the Presbyterian Women Service Award 2007, and Lifetime Membership 2012. She was an active supporter of several benevolent groups over the years, including Haiti Outreach Missions. Even as dementia stole pieces of her away from her loved ones, her love for her Lord never changed. After moving to Tennessee, she enjoyed attending Grace Fellowship Church in Kingsport with Loni. Even when her inability to stand resulted in her move to the Waters of Kingsport, she would regularly ask Loni to take her to church. She loved her Lord and Savior.

The Traylors were our wonderful neighbors in Fayetteville for 10 years. What blessings this family brought to us! When we retired in Sanford, we visited Catherine and Wilbur at their country home. She helped us dig up long leaf pine seedings, which we planted at our home at Carolina Trace. They are daily reminders of our valued relationship with this family.

The Traylors were out next door neighbors in Fayetteville for ten years. What blessings came to us from our friendship with this wonderful family! After retiring in Sanford 22 years ago, we visited Wilbur and Cathrine at their country home. She helped us dig up long Leaf pine seedlings, which we planted at our home at Carolina Trace. They are growing beautifully and are a daily reminder of our cherished friendship.

I have known Catherine for many many years. She was an extremely smart and caring person. Even though I haven´t seen her I several years, I still have many good memories of times spent with her socially and at church. May God comfort her family.
