Cathy J. House, 65, of Silver Spring, MD, died peacefully on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at her sister's home in Winchester, VA, after a brief battle with colon cancer.
Cathy was born May 10, 1960, in Memphis, TN, the middle child of seven, to the late Milton John and Evelyn Joanne (Bradow) House. She graduated from Bartlett High School in TN, in 1978, and then attended the University of Tennessee at Martin, and George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education. Cathy was an avid athlete in her youth, playing tennis, golf, basketball, softball, and running track in high school, and playing tennis on her college team.
After college Cathy worked in health education for various associations in the DC area, including the National Cancer Society, and the American Heart Association. Later in her career she found her true passion, becoming a field interviewer for government health studies and later for marketing studies.
Cathy was pre-deceased by her brother, Milton Anthony House (Tony), and is survived by her five sisters: Sharon D. Dye (Mike) of Edmond, OK, Linda J. King (Gerald) of Huntsville, AL, Alisa K. Gonazalez (Hugo) of Memphis, TN, Mary A. House (Sal) of Winchester, VA, and Holly E. Rosas (Roberto) of Winchester, VA. She is also survived by twelve nieces and nephews: Adam (Jennifer) and Kendall Dye of Edmond, OK, Aaron (Natalie) King of Huntsville, AL, Kelsey (Drew) Miller of Nashville, TN, Robbie, Jenna, and Juliette House of Memphis, TN, Zachary and Zoe Quines of Winchester, VA, Esperanza (Lucas) Keckley of Winchester, VA, and Benicio and Ruby Rosas of Winchester, VA. Cathy is also survived by seven grandnieces and nephews, and by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Cathy's nickname was Chatty Cathy, she never met a stranger and could talk with anyone. She was unfailingly kind and generous to all, an authentic follower of the Christian faith. Cathy loved animals and children the most, and they loved her; she never lost her child-like spirit. Cathy was known for her comedic relief and her repertoire of impressions, including Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, and Cartman from SouthPark. She loved music and making people smile. Cathy is much-loved by her large family and we will dearly miss her humor and silliness, and holidays will never be the same.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2pm at Jones Funeral Home in Winchester, VA, and will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/cathy-house-funeral
