Cathy Jo Rogers

Cathy Jo Thacker Rogers, 69, went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 13th, 2024. She was born in Ft. Smith, Arkansas on December 29, 1954, to Vincent and Otha Dell Thacker. (Although born in Arkansas, she was Texan through-and-through!) She attended Ballinger High School and proudly received her GED in 1982. Cathy married Roger Lynn Rogers June 3, 1972, in San Angelo, Texas, where they made their life together for almost 52 years.
Cathy worked for Wallace Labs where she became a master at her craft of negative retouching (think master photo-shopper before there were computers). After welcoming her one and only child, Carey LaDell Rogers, she started her own business where she worked from home as a negative retoucher. She made people, meat for grocery store advertising, and even stud horses look as beautiful as possible! As computers began to do the job she had done for 20+ years, she moved on to a short stint at Levi Strauss before rounding out her career as a financial secretary at a local trailer company for 23 years.
Family was the most important thing in Cathy's life. The bonds shared with siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews were everything to her. While Carey was her pride and joy, Cathy was ecstatic to add a son to her life when Carey married Bill Peacock in 1997. However, nothing made her prouder or beam brighter with joy than when she earned the new title of Granny. Caleb (20), Connor (17), and Carter (14) have brought her more joy in the last two decades than she ever thought possible. She watched them play t-ball, baseball, swim for the Central High School varsity team, play in the Lone Star and Mighty Bobcat Bands, and entertain crowds with dancing, acting, and singing.
Cathy was one of the kindest and gentlest souls, and she loved fiercely with her entire heart. Anyone who had the opportunity to know her was truly blessed. Her absence will be impossible to ignore, and she will be missed every single day by so many who loved her.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents Vincent and Dell, her in-laws William "Woody" and Francis Rogers, and her sisters Helen Thompson and Janie Clift. She is absolutely overjoyed to be with them once again! Cathy will be greatly missed by her husband Roger, her daughter Carey and son-in-law Bill, her absolute joys Caleb, Connor, and Carter, her brother Vince Thacker and wife Donna, her sister Sheila Fitzgerald, many family members, and life-long friends. Her cats, Gracie Gray and Jax, and dog, Twister, will miss her cuddles as well.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Shaffer Funeral Home, located at 1939 Sherwood Way, San Angelo, TX, 76901. Celebration of life will be held Friday, May 24th, at 10:00 a.m. at Southland Baptist Church, located at 4300 Meadow Creek Trail, San Angelo, TX, 76904. A family burial will follow at Harriett Cemetery.
