Cecelia Ann Sugden

Cecelia Ann Sugden (née Cloe, Neer), age 101, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, just days before her 102nd birthday. She was born on January 22, 1924, in Paris, Illinois, to William and Ruth Cloe.

Cecelia was a proud graduate of Paris High School. On September 1, 1945, following the end of World War II, she married her first husband, James B. Neer. Together they made their home in Cleveland, Ohio, where they raised three children and shared 31 years of marriage.

On January 12, 1985, Cecelia married her second husband, Alan Brian Sugden, beginning another 31-year partnership filled with joy and adventure. Together, they sold their homes and traveled throughout the United States in their motor home, enjoying life on the open road. They eventually settled in central Florida, before relocating to Anderson, South Carolina, where Cecelia became actively involved in the many clubs at the senior center and formed lasting friendships.

Cecelia had a deep love for music and faithfully played the piano at church for many years. She was also a gifted artist who expressed her creativity through her artwork. Her life was marked by curiosity, resilience, and a gentle strength that touched all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ruth Cloe; her first husband, James B. Neer; her second husband, Brian Sugden; and her beloved daughter, Melissa Cyphert.

Cecelia is survived by her daughter, Debra LePere; her son, Breck Neer; step-daughter, Pam Sugden; her grandchildren, Scott (Misty) LePere, Mark LePere, Jen (Dan) Laura, Jaime (Drew) Daly, Lindsy Neer, and Leann (Paul Reed) Neer; her great-grandchildren, Christian (Carley) LePere, Caymen LePere, Cylix LePere, Gabe Laura, and Wyatt Reed; and her great-great-granddaughter, Hanna LePere.

In keeping with Cecelia’s wishes, no funeral services will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Shepherd’s Center of Hamilton County or the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Shop for Kids.

Cecelia lived a long and meaningful life filled with love, creativity, and adventure, and she will be lovingly remembered.
