Cecil VanHook

Cecil Eugene Vanhook, 64, of Stanford, KY, entered his heavenly home on January 3, 2026 from Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital.

He was born on April 28, 1961, to Leamon and Grace Moore Vanhook in Rockcastle County, KY. Cecil lived his life to the fullest! He held many jobs, including a Walmart meat department associate for 25 years. Working for Wilkinson Farms and David and Teresa Campbell on their Pork Hill Farm.

Cecil also had many interests. Especially hunting and fishing! Going on long road trips with his wife exploring the backroads, never the main highway. He also enjoyed camping and kayaking with his wife and Boss Dog, his loyal companion. He recently began raising chickens and took great joy in watching them run around in their pen.

He is survived by his wife Janet. By his brother Joe (Kim) and two sisters Kathy and Susie. Children Norma Summers (David), Ashley Tharp, Scott Stamper (Rachel), Jeremy Stamper (Tabby), Adam Vanhook (Nikki), Amy Vanhook, Sarah Sheldon (Eric) and Katherine Rowe (Mitchell) and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Grace Moore Vanhook and Leamon Vanhook and his brother Michael Vanhook.

He will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality and his ability to make people laugh, oh, how he loved to make people laugh. He had a heart for sharing. He shared fish and deer meat with friends and family. If you needed help, he would try. He became "YouTube certified" in many things this way. He loved God, his family, and being in nature.

A one-day service will be held on Thursday, January 8 2026 at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Bro. Jerry Eades officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
