Cecile Yvonne Thackston

Cecile Yvonne Caskey Thackston, 88, wife of the Rev. Dr. Reginald Thackston, died Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC.
Born in Lancaster, and raised in Fort Mill, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Millard Caskey and Maude Effie Moss Caskey.
Yvonne was a secretary through the years at Lower Richland High School, Marion District Office and High School, and The Citadel, but her life was really reflected in her volunteerism. In Columbia, she volunteered at the Veterans Hospital. While living in Charleston, she was a volunteer Guardian ad Litem, advocating on behalf of children who have experienced abuse or neglect. In Sumter, she served as treasurer for The Samaritan House and also spent a decade working with United Ministries interviewing clients and assessing their needs.
She is survived by her husband of Sumter; a daughter, Fran T. Glaze (Lee) of Sumter; a son, Mark W. Thackston (Tempie) of Enterprise, AL; four grandchildren, Thomas Scott Glaze (Kara), Sally G. Burr (Aaron), Nancy Canon Bowlan (Brett), Austin Reeves, and four great-granddaughters.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Frey officiating.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church Fellowship Hall.
Inurnment will be held in the Trenholm Road United Methodist Church Columbarium in Columbia, SC at a later date.
