CECILIA E. NESTLERODE

The family is saddened to announce the passing of Cecilia E. Horlacher/ Nestlerode on August 28,2025 at the age of 95. She was ready to be with her Lord and savior in heaven.

Cecilia was born in Steinbach, Germany, the fifth of eight children. She survived WWII in Germany at the age of nine, always terrified when she heard bombs drop and blow up in nearby small towns. Cecilia lost her oldest brother in the Russian Front and 2 other brothers were released after being prisoners of war by the US. She excelled in school and.

graduated Oberschule in good standing.

She met her husband a US military soldier while working as a switchboard operator transferring his calls. Stan Nestlerode asked Cecilia to travel to the US and be his wife, after dating and much letter writing.

They had four children while traveling to Europe and the states on Stan's military assignments. Cecilia loved traveling to Europe to see her extended German family.

When Stan retired from the military, Cecilia pursued and graduated from the registered nursing program at Antelope Valley College, California. She was very dedicated to her nursing job and always went into work on her days off, or on holidays when asked.

After retiring from nursing, Cecilia enjoyed gardening, calling her siblings in Germany and Canada and always ending the day with a glass of red wine or maybe even 2 or 3.

She is preceded by the loss of her parents, her husband Stan and all four brothers and three sisters. Cecilia will be sorely missed by her surviving family of 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be held at Saint Junipero Serra on September 15,2025 at 10 am. Following the mass, burial services will take place at Good Shepherd Cemetery.
