William V. Mount, a resident of Palmdale, California, passed away on December 19, 2025, in

Lancaster, California. He was born on February 23, 1938, in Grand Junction, Iowa, to Merle and

Annabel (McGaffey) Mount.

William grew up in Grand Junction, where he attended Grand Junction Consolidated School and

graduated. During high school, he was active in Yearbook, Vocal Music, Band, Track,

Basketball, and Dramatics. He was also a proud member of the Boy Scouts of America and

achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

After graduation, William attended Iowa State University of Science and Technology, earning

his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1961. While in college, he participated in the

Symphony Orchestra and Concert Band and was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Alpha

Phi Omega. He also belonged to the Institute of Electrical Engineers (A.I.E.E.) and the Institute

of Radio Engineers (I.R.E.).

William served in the U.S. Army Reserve from October 1956 until September 1962, receiving an

Honorable Discharge at the rank of E-5.

In 1961, William married the love of his life, Lorene Townsend. They honeymooned in

California, where William also interviewed with McDonnell Douglas and accepted a position.

The couple settled in Santa Monica, California. In 1967, William became the Supervisor at the

Gray Butte Microwave Test Site in Palmdale, California. The family moved to Canyon Country,

and in 1977 they made their final move to Palmdale, where William and Lorene lived out their

lives.

William is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Lorene. He is survived by his

son, William B. (Beth) Mount, and his daughter, Lori L. (Brian) Hornback; five

grandchildren-Christina Mount, Bailey Mount, Brandon Mount, Taylor Hornback Platt

(Andrew), and Alexis Hornback-and two greatgrandchildren.
