Cecilia Scranton, DVM passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
Dr. Scranton graduated from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell in 1986. After graduation, she practiced in a mixed large/small animal practice in Adams, NY; then worked in an equine/small animal practice in Remsen, NY. In 1992 she started her own small animal practice in Tupper Lake where she provided compassionate care for pets from all around the Adirondacks for 33 years. Dr Scranton was a gifted veterinarian, she will be profoundly missed by her clients, colleagues, and friends.
Dr. Scranton was born in San Paulo, Brazil on August 1, 1960. She grew up in the Boston, Massachusetts area. She knew as a young girl that she wanted to become a veterinarian and worked hard to make her dream a reality.
Dr. Scranton was predeceased by her parents Augustinho Borges and Margaret Castro, as well as Bud, her Rottweiler and several other pets.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Per Dr. Scranton’s directive, there will be no calling hours or funeral. A celebration of Dr. Scranton's life will be announced in the future.
Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude’s’s Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN, Food for the Poor, Coconut Creek, FL, or Catholic Charities USA, Alexandria VA.
