On March 4, 2025, our beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and neighbor, Cedric Said Farhat, peacefully passed away from mortality to the realms of heaven after a courageous battle with cancer. Cedric was born on July 4, 1943, in Glendale, California to Joseph Said and Sarah Ribe Farhat. Cedric was the oldest of three children, along with his brother, Joe, and sister, Mary. At the very young age of 10 years old, Cedric’s father passed away. The family then relocated to Salt Lake City, Utah to be near Sarah’s family. Sarah purchased the wonderful home on Hartford Street where Cedric resided until his passing.
At the age of 12, Cedric pretty much took over caring for his mother, brother, and sister. At 14 years of age, Cedric started working at the Murray Laundry with his mom giving his whole paycheck to her to help with expenses. Cedric never married and continued to support the family throughout his life. What a sacrifice that was, but you would never hear a complaint from him.
Cedric worked for UTA as a mechanic for 30 years until he retired. He loved retirement and afterwards spent all his time in his beautiful yard. He had apple, peach, apricot, nectarine, and plum trees along with strawberries, raspberries, and grapes. His vegetable garden was full of tomatoes, chilies, cucumbers, onions, eggplant, and garlic. Our neighborhood reaped in his hard work, and we were all the lucky recipients of these fruits and vegetables.
Cedric was preceded in death by his father Joseph; mother Sarah; brother Joe; and sister-in-law Judy. He is survived by his sister Mary; brother-in-law Kevin Thompson along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends who were like family to him and loved him dearly.
Our GENTLE GIANT will be greatly missed and always remembered. In honor of Cedric, please donate to the American Cancer Society.
