Cedric Smith passed away on October 8th, 2023. At the time of his passing, he was with his wife Andrea Lupo, and his two sons, Mac and Jesse Smith.
A celebration of life will take place Saturday, October 14th, 2023, from 2:00-6:00PM at the Greenwich Village Funeral Home (199 Bleecker Street, New York NY 10012), and will be open to all who want to attend. Come for the whole time or part of the time.
Cedric was born in Ottawa, Illinois on July 29th, 1947 to Ruth and Clifford Smith. He graduated from Ottawa High School in 1966. He worked at his parents' golf course, where he became an exceptional golfer. He attended the University of Illinois Extension, the Chicago Art Institute, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of Alabama.
Cedric's first passion was his art, which brought him to West Hollywood in Los Angeles, Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco, and eventually to TriBeCa in New York City. His work is awarded and featured all over the country ().
Cedric married Andrea Lupo in 1987. He was a devoted husband and father. Together, they raised two boys (Mac and Jesse). He was instrumental to their upbringing, coaching basketball, baseball, and tennis. He never missed a game, practice, or tournament.
Cedric worked as a construction supervisor, renovating some of the most esteemed properties in New York City. Over the course of 40 years, he used those skills to transform (over and over again), an old industrial loft into a vibrant home.
Above all else, Cedric's family and friends always came first. Cedric never offered a helping hand, but insisted upon it. Following his retirement, he enjoyed golfing, playing cribbage, and going to Yankee games with his family. He spent the last year and a half of his life developing a special bond with his first grandson, Cameron, whom he loved very much.
Cedric is survived by his wife Andrea, sons Mac (Erica Masin) and Jesse (Angelika Wronowska), grandson Cameron, sister Leslie (Donald) Nelson, sisters-in-law Lori Lupo (Paul Chipolis) and Deborah Lupo (Hal Halpner), niece Celeste (Gregg) Ellis, nephew DJ (Lori) Nelson,many more cousins, nieces, nephews, and a community in downtown Manhattan he helped build.
