Chad "Cooney" Shaw, aka Coondog, age 44 of the Blanchard, LA area, passed away February 4, 2022. He was born March 19, 1977, in Terrebonne Parish, LA to James Shaw and Martha Sapia. He married Brandy Lynn Cogley Shaw on November 28, 1998, the only one who could tame the dog. They shared 23 sweet years and four children, Allie Simmons (Teno), Hunter Shaw (Shelby), Brandon Shaw and Raegan Shaw. They recently embarked on the adventure of being Papaw and BB by welcoming Cameron Reese Coulter and Cohen Wyatt Shaw. They are expecting their first granddaughter in June, Ellianna. These sweet babies were one of his greatest accomplishments. His man's bestfriend, Blackie and sister dogs Lulu and Snowball were softspots in his life. Cooney had three brothers, Patrick Sapia, Chris Smith and Jody Smith. He also cherished his time with Lorretta Shaw, whom everyone called Memaw Hazel. If you knew Cooney, you knew Harry and Cathy Cogley were more than in-laws to him. They were another set of parents and treated him as so. Cooney made a career in the oilfield, most recently with Axis Energy Services of Longview, TX. He made lifelong friends that were more like family than coworkers. Cooney was an avid deer hunter and loved the deer camp. His favorite pastime was hanging out on his backporch cooking, swimming in his pool and watching his beloved LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints with family and friends. He was the core that held the family and friend group together. He was always up for a crawfish boil or a good grilling. He had a love hate relationship with George Strait. He was very competitive and loved to win at any cost.
We will celebrate Cooney's life Wednesday, February 9th at First Baptist Church, 311 N. Pine Street, Vivian, LA at 1 o'clock with a visitation February 8th from 5 pm- 8 pm at First Baptist Church, Vivian, LA. Burial to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mooringsport, LA.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Shaw, Brandon Shaw, Patrick Sapia, Scott Tarno, Micheal "Mousey" Jackson, and Chris Blaine. Honorary pallbearers will be Harry Cogley, Brandon Cogley, Wallace Trahan, Jr, Todd Parker, Jason Williamson, Jared Vick, Joe Holt, Robert Dupree, Jody Smith, Chris Smith and David Blaine.
The family would like to thank the numerous friends and family that have come by, brought or sent food, called or texted and sent prayers up to the Good Lord. They are coveted and appreciated beyond words.
Cooney was a quiet man, but there are those that know the truth. He was a man with a big heart, a great laugh and loved his family with all of his heart. If you were fortunate enough to KNOW Cooney Shaw, you were blessed and fortunate. Geaux Tigah's and "come on momma"!
There family suggest that donations be made to Texas Oilfield Angels.
