Charlene Koch Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 1, 2025.
Charlene Koch, age 90, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas. A devoted servant of faith and family, Charlene's life was a testament to dedication, grace, and unwavering commitment to her community.

Born on July 10, 1935, on the Smock's Family Farm in Harrison Township Kansas to Charles Curtis Smock and Mary Angeline (Foster) Smock. Charlene grew up surrounded by the values of hard work and faith that would shape her life. Her early years were filled with stories of farm life and the adventures she shared with her brother Joe Smock and sister Coene Edwards-tales that became cherished traditions at every family gathering.

After graduating high school with honors in 1953, Charlene pursued a professional path that began with the Acton Manufacturing Company. She moved to Arkansas City, KS to take on the role of the executive typist-a position she earned through diligence and excellence. Her presence at Acton was more than administrative; she became a recognizable face for the company when she was featured in their sales brochures as the Acton Coca-Cola girl.

While her early career was marked by professional success, Charlene found her true calling in service to her faith. In 1960, she began working as the church administrator for The Arkansas City church of Christ-a role she held for an extraordinary 65 years until her retirement in February 2025. Her tenure was not only long but deeply impactful. From teaching children's bible classes, organizing mission trips, and Vacation Bible School (VBS) programs to preparing weekly bulletins-of which 3,380 were found lovingly preserved in her home-Charlene poured herself into every task with joy and purpose.

Her devotion extended beyond administration; Charlene was a cornerstone of The Arkansas City KS church of Christ community. Whether through church functions or mission outreach, she embodied the spirit of Christian service. Her presence brought warmth and reliability to every event she touched.

Charlene also found joy in reading, swimming, traveling, and participating in church activities. These hobbies reflected her curious mind and generous heart-always eager to learn more about the world while staying grounded in faith.

Family was central to Charlene's life. She took immense pride in her loving husband Lloyd, married October 18, 1953 and their son Kirby born January 14th, 1960. Their memory remained close to her heart throughout her later years. Holidays were especially meaningful times when Charlene's storytelling brought laughter and connection across generations.

Charlene's legacy is one of steadfast faithfulness-to God, to family, and to community. Her life enriched all who knew her through acts both large and small: a bulletin delivered on time each week, a kind word at just the right moment, or a story that made everyone feel at home.

Charlene was proceeded in death by her parents Charles and Mary Smock, husband Lloyd Koch their son Kirby Koch, her sister Coene Edwards, her brother Joe Smock, Nephew Carl Edwards, and Nephew Logan Beaston. Charlene is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

May Charlene's memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire lives rooted in love and service. The Funeral will be held on September 8th, 2025, 2:00 PM at The Arkansas City church of Christ, 2700 N Summit St., Arkansas City KS 67005

Such a dear, sweet, Christian woman. She was a loving friend to my mother, Dorothy Grimes, for decades. They loved doing church work together, and in later years, she became mother“s best friend. She is at peace with Loyd and Kirby, the one she lost much too soon.
Love you sweet Charlene.
