Charlene Rose Kovacs

Charlene Rose Kovacs, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and beloved friend, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, at the age of 88. A longtime resident of Clawson, Michigan and recently a resident of Sterling Heights. Charlene lived a life marked by love, warmth, and an unwavering dedication to her family.

Born on March 28, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, to Francis and Leone Fraquelli, Charlene was raised in Royal Oak and graduated from Royal Oak High School in 1955. She was married to Leslie Kovacs (passed 2005) for 15 years, 1964 - 1979, and had 3 daughters. Her kind and compassionate nature led her to a rewarding career at Beaumont Hospital, where she worked in Registration for over 20 years, always offering a friendly smile and gentle guidance to those in need.

Family was at the center of Charlene's world. She poured her heart into raising her daughters and found immeasurable joy in her grandchildren, who were truly the light of her life. She was a steady presence, full of love, support, and kindness.

Charlene had a knack for making everyday moments special. She found joy in simple pleasures-shopping outings, quiet afternoons spent knitting, and the beauty of blooming flowers. Her passion for knitting inspired her to start a home knitting club, where she proudly served as the head knitter, sharing her talent and warmth with others. Her favorite color, purple, reflected her vibrant personality and graceful spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Leone, and her sister, Donna (Frank) Gottberg. Charlene leaves behind a loving legacy in her daughters, Kathryn (the late Andre) Narayan, Lynn (Rick) Hamlin, and Jill (Marc) Herbert; her seven grandchildren-Luke, Jake, Claire (Niko), Chad, Megan, Kris, and Paul; and her great-grandson, Beau.

A Memorial Gathering to celebrate Charlene's beautiful life will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Gramer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main Street, Clawson, MI 48017. A luncheon will follow the service.

In honor of Charlene's generous and caring spirit, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and/or Wounded Warrior Project.
