Charlene L. Scott, 68, Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2024 peacefully at home. She was born Tuesday, October 16, 1956 in Albany, New York a daughter of the late Ovila and Nancy Vermette.

Charlene was a woman of passions. She worked for years for the Union Pacific Railroad, where she fought vigorously to make the field she loved more open to future women. The job brought this New York party animal to so many destinations, of which she had so many stories. While you might not think Missouri is where anyone who worked and played that hard would ever settle, not one to be stopped by a back injury, it was here that she founded a family.

Now a mother, she worked tirelessly to earn her degree in Computer Science, while raising a daughter and founding a rental business with her partner: Bob. Even though his passing, she persisted. She supported her family by simultaneously working with various state departments' databases, and blueprinting and overseeing construction of no less than three completely unique houses, and maintenance and upkeep of more still.

Upon retirement from the State, she continued property management and design, loving life together with her partner of over 20 years Dan and her devoted daughter Chloe, who could only be in awe of Charlene's unceasing drive to always be doing something.

Through a severe back injury, two bouts of cancer (beat it 2-0) and progressive congestive heart failure, she continued to indulge in life and take on new experiences such as designing houses and costumes, travel, cooking, music, and theater, with a vigor that would seem to defy the laws of biology.

Survivors include her sister: Linda; brother: Eddie and sister-in-law Sherry; many beloved nieces and nephews; her partner; and her daughter, who had all been present as she passed, all wondering if she was now ready to at last rest. We were not ready for her to do so, but she has surely earned it.

Per her wishes there will be no formal services.

Arrangements for Ms. Scott are under the direction of TYLER M. WOODS FUNERAL DIRECTOR, 611 E. Capitol Ave. Jefferson City, Missouri 65101. (573) 636-2424.
