Charlene Pettit Yarborough, 87, of Pauline, SC, died Tuesday morning, September 24, 2024, at her home. Born May 24, 1937, in Pauline, SC, she was the daughter of the late Allen Wakefield Pettit and Grace Morrow Marquis, and widow of Milton Dean Yarborough. 

A graduate of Roebuck High School and Winthrop College, Mrs. Yarborough retired from Spartanburg County District 6. She taught at Roebuck High School for five years and Dorman High School for two years in the business department. She also worked at Roebuck Intermediate, Roebuck Elementary, and Woodland Heights as librarian for a total of 38 years with Spartanburg County School District 6. 

She was a life-long member of Philadelphia Baptist Church, teaching third and fourth graders in the Children’s Division, a member of the choir, former trustee and served on several committees – Parsonage and Sanctuary Building Committees, four personnel search committees, Homebound visitation, and Prayer Team Ministry. 

Survivors include her brother-in-law, Donald E. Bolton, of Pauline, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her twin sister, Irene Pettit Casey, and another sister, Gayle Pettit Bolton, along with her sister-in-law, Foye Y. Fowler 

***Due to inclimate weather conditions today, September 27, 2024,, the visitation and funeral service for Charlene are being postponed and the new date and times will be announced as soon as possible.***

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Connie Maxwell Children’s Ministries, 810 Maxwell Ave, Greenwood, SC 29646. 

The family is at the home of Charlene Pettit Yarborough. 

The family expresses sincere thanks to Charlene’s caregivers: Jackie Tinsley, Janice Neely, Charlene Lowrance, Zora Aiken, Josephine Brown and Pruitt Hospice for the loving care shown to Charlene.
