Charles Joseph “Red” Adam, Jr., age 89, passed away on May 31, 2025, in Covington, LA. He was a native of Plaquemines Parish, LA, and a resident of Mandeville for the past 20 years. Beloved husband of Joyce Marie Laurent Cousins Adam for 43 years. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles Joseph “Shorty” Adam and Thelma Grob Adam, son Mark David Adam, daughter Jeanne Marie Adam Francis Barcelona, sister Patricia Adam Ansardi Zebley, brother in laws Frank Anglada and Max Dugger, Anna Kay Dugger Adam Goldstein and lifelong best friend Paul “Cliff” Alberado. He is survived by his children, Charles Michael Adam (Mary) of Lafayette, LA, Paul Joseph Adam (Gretchen) of McKinney, TX, Donna Kay Adam of Thibodaux, LA, and Philip Alan Adam (Cody) of Thibodaux, LA. He is also survived by step-children Wanda Cousins Rester (Buaford) of Covington, LA, Stalios Wilbur John Cousins (Brenda) of Weatherford, TX, Randy Joseph Cousins of New Orleans, LA, Gary Michael Cousins (Lydia Kay-deceased) of Round Rock TX , Jewel Maxiene Cousins-Morella (John) of Dardanelle, AR. He is also survived by seven grandchildren Anthony Francis (Laurie) of McKinney, TX, Emily Francis Nowell (Joshua) of Ardmore, OK, Paul Adam, Jr. (Jackie) of Austin, TX, Suzane Melancon Saragusa (Sam) of Burleson, TX, Kristine Francis White Nichols (Garrett) of Ratliff City, OK, Elizabeth Adam Escalera (Adam) of Allen, TX, Alexander Adam of Lafayette, LA, five step-grandchildren, Glenn Samuel Rester of New Orleans, LA, Gwen Marie Cousins-Frisbee (John) of New Orleans, LA, Tabitha Lynn Cousins-Riley (Adam) of Round Rock, TX. Steven Eugene Cousins (Connie) of Weatherford, TX, Stephanie Ann Cousins of Weatherford, TX, thirteen great-grandchildren, eleven step-great-grandchildren, two great-great -grandchildren and four step-great-great-grandchildren. Charles is also survived his sister Barbara Adam Anglada of Covington, LA, brother in laws Alan Dugger of Clinton, IN, Edward Ansardi of Covington, LA, Bob Zebley of Ocean Springs, MS, sister-in-law Glenda Massey, of Phoenix, AZ, many nieces, nephews and great friends including his best friend’s surviving wife Diane Alberado. Charles enlisted in the US Army immediately after graduating from Port Sulphur High School in 1954. While in the Army, after basic training, he graduated from the Adjutant Generals School in Indianapolis, IN and served as Secretary to the Commanding General of the 4th Armored Division at Fort Hood, TX. In 1962, Charles graduated from Southeastern Louisiana College with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. In addition to working in his parents’ marine service and supply business in Empire, LA, Charles was employed by Delta Bank in 1968 and graduated from the LSU School of Banking of the South in 1975. He enjoyed his job as Vice President and Comptroller for 27 years until he retired in 1995. Charles continued to work as a self-employed tax accountant after retirement, and spent much time enjoying his iMac, iPhone and iPad as an Apple computer enthusiast. He considered himself an “Appleholic”. Charles’s greatest joy in life was dancing; he was a charter member of the Good Times Jamacia Swing Dance Club on the Westbank where he and his wife Joyce were instructors for many years. After moving to Mandeville in 2005, he and Joyce continued to dance whenever they had the opportunity. Other activities that Charles enjoyed during his lifetime were playing golf and softball. Charles was a past president of the Plaquemines Parish Lions Club, and a 30-year member of the Belle Chasse Rotary Club where he served as treasurer for many years. After Katrina, he and his wife Joyce, continued to drive to Belle Chasse from Mandeville weekly to attend Rotary meetings for 14 years. Charles, or “Red” as he was called by most who knew him, was a compassionate man, whose humor and wit brought laughter to everyone he knew. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expwy, Harvey, LA on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 1pm. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11am until 1pm. Interment, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery. Family and friends may view and sign the online guest book at www.mothefunerals.com.
