Charles T. Augustine, 87, of Erie, passed away Friday, August 16, 2024 at his residence. He was born June 7, 1937 in Erie, a son of the late Charles and Jennie (Bruno) Augustine.
Charley grew up in Little Italy and embraced his Italian-American heritage throughout his life.
Charley pursued his education with enthusiasm, attending Saint Peter's Grade School and Cathedral Prep, where he not only excelled academically but also displayed his athletic talents on the football field. After graduating, he furthered his studies at Duquesne University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy and was an active member of the Psi Chapter of Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity. He also was one of the founding fathers of the Beta Rho Chapter of Alpha Phi Delta at Gannon University.
A dedicated patriot, Charley honorably served in the United States Army Reserves, demonstrating his commitment to his country and fellow service members. Throughout his career in the medical industry, Charley made substantial contributions, notably as the Director of Pleasant Ridge Manor and establishing the pharmacy for Community Health Net. He will be remembered by many as a beloved football coach for St Peter's Catholic school, an active parishioner of St. Paul's and St. George's Catholic Churches, and for his love of golf as well as football. He loved to shop and was always a great dresser. He will be further remembered for his great, big personality, quick with a joke or a one liner and for the dedication and love for his family. Charley will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Augustine; two brothers-in-law, Donald Zonno and Joseph Chessario; and one sister-in-law, Carmella Augustine.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy Jo (Blystone) Augustine; three daughters, Natalie Gramley (Kevin), Ann Marie Augustine, and Joanna Augustine (Keith Wright); two sisters, Joan Zonno and Theresa Chessario; and five grandchildren, Christopher Gramley (Natalie Hall), Benjamin, Jonathan, and Matthew Gramley, and Joanna Peduzzi. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
