Canton – Charles Edmond Ayers, 86, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022 at Smoky Mountain Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Charles was a native of Buncombe County and a son of the late Henry Ellis and Naomi Childers Ayers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Donaldson Ayers, who died in 1998. Charles was a United States Air Force veteran and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. He retired from Champion International with 36 years of service.
He is survived by three sons, David Ayers (Mavis) of Charlotte, Roger Ayers (Cindy) of Avery's Creek, and Mark Ayers of Canton; two sisters, Gladys Ayers of West Asheville and Doris Ayers of Liberty, South Carolina; and ten grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Morning Star Community Cemetery with the Reverend Barry Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home in Canton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the The Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014
The care of Mr. Ayers has been entrusted to Wells Funeral Homes of Canton.
