John William Ayers, Jr.-age 76 of Luttrell went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, August 12, 2025. He was a member of Highland Springs Baptist Church in Blaine. Graduate of Horace Maynard High School, Class of 1967. John was a retired conductor for Norfolk-Southern Railroad and was a Veteran serving in the U. S. Army. Preceded in death by parents, John William Ayes and Ida Katherine (Young) Ayers; former wife, Brenda Ayers; brother-in-law, J. C. DeVault.

Survivors: daughter, Susan Willis and husband, Tracy Willis; son, Chris Ayers and wife, Amy Ayers. Five grandchildren, Deavin Ayers, Jaden Moyers, Bobby Ayers, Kourtney Brown and Ava Ayers; four great-grandchildren, Brylon Brogan, Waylon Moyers, Jaxxson Ayers and Lilliana Ayers due in September. Two sisters, Judy Lee Brown and husband, Travis of Texas; Velma Jean DeVault of South Carolina. Several nieces and nephews. Long-time friend, Mary Ann Collins.

The family will receive friends 10-12 noon Saturday, August 16, 2025 Cooke-Campbell Mortuary Chapel with the funeral service to follow at 12 noon Saturday, Rev. Ronnie Scarbro officiating. Military graveside service will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Maynardville presented by Tri-County Veterans Honor Guard. Pallbearers: Deavin Ayers, Bobby Ayers, James Coriell, James Paul, Brett Paul, Chris Ayers. Honorary Pallbearers: Tracy Willis, Trey Moyers, Ty Brogan. The family would like to express a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice and Cooke-Campbell Mortuary. Arrangements by Cooke-Campbell Mortuary, Maynardville.
