Charles Edward Baer, Jr. passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, in Houston, Texas at the age of 91. Charlie, also known as, "Boo," was born in Seguin, Texas on November 22, 1932. Though he lived many other places in Texas, he always thought of Seguin as Home. Charlie graduated from Seguin High School in 1950 and attended Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He then served in the United States Army for two years, including a tour of duty in Germany. Charlie returned home from the service and finished his undergraduate education at The University of Texas, where he earned his Bachelors of Business Administration. Upon his arrival at the Forty Acres, Charlie quickly became a dedicated Texas Longhorns football fan, and was a proud season ticket holder for over 30 years.
Charlie married Carolyn Wilson Baer in 1965 and they started their family in Austin, Texas. In 1979, Charlie moved with his family to Galveston, Texas, where he worked as a Senior Vice President and Trust Investment Officer with First Hutchings Sealy National Bank, which eventually became Bank of America. Charlie retired from banking in 1996 and he and Carolyn moved to a beautiful home they built in the Texas Hill County. For 21 years, Charlie and Carolyn enjoyed hosting friends and family (including six rambunctious grandchildren) at their place on Rebecca Creek for events ranging from Christmas, Thanksgiving and the 4th of July to vineyard tours and antiquing.
After losing Carolyn in 2018 after 54 years of marriage, Charlie moved to Houston, Texas in 2019 to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
Charlie is predeceased by his wife, Carolyn; his parents: Charles Edward Baer, Sr. and Agnes Maude Erskine Baer; and his cousins whom he always thought of as siblings: Elizabeth Erskine "Budgie" Hollamon and Thomas Henry "Tucker" Hollamon.
Survivors include children: Trey Baer of Huntsville and Molly Holub and husband Karl of Houston; and grandchildren: Zan Baer, Zachary Baer, Zoey Baer, Chanse Holub, Caroline Holub and Charlie Holub.
A Graveside Service, for the family, will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at San Geronimo Cemetery, with a Memorial Service and reception to follow at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church (201 E. Nolte St., Seguin, TX 78155) at 10:00 a.m.
