Charles was born on April 10, 1943, in Elizabethton, Tennessee to the late Earl & Edith (Morgan) Bales. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Marines Corp, enlisting at just 17 years old. He married the love of his life Betty Christian on April 15, 1967, in Flint, Michigan. Charles was employed with General Motors within the V-8 Engine Plant for over 35 years, retiring in 1999. Charles lived for the thrill of racing hot-rods involving his wife and children in the sport as well. Charles was truly a jack-of-all-trades and was handy at just about anything. He was a loving husband and caring, dedicated father and grandpa. Charles adored his children and grandchildren and attended all their school and sporting events. After retirement, his favorite past time was watching racing, football, golf and baseball on TV from the comfort of his favorite lazy boy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty; two daughters, Joanna (Lyle) Reynolds and Vickie (Ryan) Jager; four grandchildren, Briana Broadnax, Devyn Johnson, Jack Jager and Eloise Jager and great-granddaughter, Sanai Cobb. Charles is further survived by his sister, Karen (Jim) Edwards; brother-in-law, Myron (Linda) Christian and sister-in-law, Kay (Jimmy) Johns. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles Robert Bales and his two brothers, Randy and Edward Bales and brother-in-law, Jim Christian.
The family would like to thank the kind and caring staff at Henry Ford Ascension of Grand Blanc. They would also like to extend their thanks to family and friends for their thoughts and prayers and for the support from their neighbors.
