Charles Bartz Obituary

Watertown, WI - Charles "Charlie" R. Bartz, 87, passed away on August 16, 2025 at UW Hospital in Madison.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown, WI at 11 a.m. on Monday August 25, 2025 with Rev. Brett Brauer and Rev. Lucas Proeber officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at the church at 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorials, if desired, can be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Watertown is serving the family. Online condolences may be left at www.HafemeisterFH.com.

Charles Raymond Bartz was born on June 20, 1938, to Julius and Mary (Pugh) Bartz in Packwaukee, WI. Following his graduation from high school, Charlie was employed at many places, including Watertown Skilled Care, Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital and the Hawk/YMCA Center. On May 6, 1988, he was united in marriage to Lois (Braunschweig) (Uttech) at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown, WI.

Charlie had a lifelong love of the outdoors and enjoyed camping, spending more than 30 years at River Bend. Charlie enjoyed games such as cards, dice, bingo, and horseshoes. He also found joy in bowling and visiting casinos. In quieter moments, Charlie enjoyed reading, working on puzzles, and tending to his garden.

Charles is survived by his wife, Lois Bartz; children, (Deborah) Uttech, Scott (Melanie) Uttech, Tim Bartz, Gilvie (Barb) Bartz, Crystal Maas, John (Lori) Uttech; 16 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends. He was the last member of his immediate family.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; children, Steve Uttech, Mark Uttech, and Jay Uttech; and son-in-law Rick Maas.

The family would like to thank the staff at UW Hospital ICU for the wonderful care and compassion they provided to Charlie.
