Charles Laverne Boggs, age 76, of St. Ignace, Michigan, died on September 30, 2025, at his home. He was born on November 9, 1948, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Dean and Mary (Rouch) Lewis and Clifford Boggs Sr. Charles grew up traveling with his family, who worked as lumberjacks in the woods. This adventurous lifestyle shaped his love for nature and hard work. In 1973, he settled in St. Ignace, a place he would proudly call home. Charles worked at the Big Boy restaurant in St. Ignace as a busboy, where he became a beloved member of the community. Known for his kind heart and warm smile, everyone who met Charles remembered him. He continued to be a vibrant part of the town until 2001, when he retired due to a family injury. Charles was deeply involved with the Special Olympics, where he earned numerous medals and trophies. Bowling was one of his favorite events, and he took great pride in participating. He was also a fan of classic television, especially The Dukes of Hazzard. A highlight of his life was meeting the cast at an auto show and receiving their autographs. He also enjoyed watching The Andy Griffith Show. Charles had many passions. He loved biking, camping, traveling, going to auto and truck shows, shopping, and caring for farm animals. He also enjoyed the quiet challenge of putting together puzzles. He will be remembered for his joyful spirit, his dedication to his community, and the love he shared with those around him. Charles is survived by his siblings, Darlene (Gary "Pete") Heckman of Moran, Michigan, Clifford Boggs Jr. of Escanaba, Michigan, Roger Boggs of Texas, Elizabeth Smith of West Olive, Michigan, and Shirley (Don) Swenson of Cocoa Beach, Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Mary Lewis, and Clifford Boggs Sr.; brothers, Ronald, Dale and Douglas; sister, Lorrain Taylor; sisters-in-law, Anna Boggs and Barbara Boggs; and brother-in-law, LeRoy Smith. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Wequayoc Cemetery, M-134, St. Ignace, Michigan. Following the burial a luncheon will be held at the Moran Township Hall (Library), 1941 Church St. Moran, MI 49760. Memorial Contributions may be held in Charles honor at the Mackinac County Human Society, 980 Cheeseman Rd. St Ignace, MI 49781. The family extends their gratitude to the caregiver at Pleasant View Assisted Living Center. Family Life Funeral Homes – St. Ignace assisted the family with arrangements.
