Brannen Family Funeral Services Glennville ChapelCharles J. Brannen, 96, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Savannah Hospice. He was born and raised in Glennville, GA, on Dry Fork Rd, to Stephen “Olney” and Stella Brannen.
Charles served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, processing troops. After his service, he returned to Savannah and graduated from Armstrong College with a degree in business. He worked in finance for 33 years at Hercules, Inc., in Georgia, Virginia, and Delaware, before retiring to Savannah.
He married his wife, Mary Sommers, and they shared 61 beautiful years together.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jim Champion of Niwot, Colorado; his son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Linda Brannen of Middletown, Delaware; grandchildren, William Champion, Daniel (Amber) Champion, Jessica (Kevin) Deshaies, Monica (Bobby) Johnston; and great-grandchildren, Courtland and Blakely Champion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olney and Stella; his wife, Mary; his brothers, Thurmond Brannen and Jerry Brannen; his sister, Esteen Zettler; and his son, Dennis Brannen.
Charles loved spending time with his family, especially when out-of-state relatives came to visit, when he traveled to Glennville to see his niece Marteal Brannen, and when he spent time with his nephew Stephen Brannen. He also enjoyed reading, often finishing several books a week, and was an avid Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs fan who never missed a game.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Brannen Family Funeral Services. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 8, 2025 at the chapel of Brannen Family Funeral Services. Burial will follow in Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to: Hospice of Savannah, 1352 Eisenhower Dr. Savannah, Georgia 31406.
