Charles "Charlie" Joseph Brennan,a lifelong resident of Avoca, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, at the age of 87.
He was born on September 19, 1938, in Avoca, Michigan to the late William and Mae Brennan.
A devout Catholic, Charlie lived his faith through his actions and his unwavering commitment to his family and friends. He was a loving husband to his late wife, Margaret, with whom he shared 18 wonderful years of marriage after their wedding on April 19, 1985, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Together, they nurtured a family that would be the center of Charlie's world.
Charlie was a proud father to his daughters, Audrey (Ryan) O'Connor, Kerrie (Ryan) Hyde, and Haylie (Jeff) Lossing. His role as a grandfather to Sean and Chase O'Connor, and Jack and Matthew Hyde, was one of his greatest joys. He relished in their accomplishments, especially their baseball games, and cherished every gift that bore the title he held dear: Grampy Charlie. His sister, Sr. Lorraine Brennan, special niece, Lorriane Mahar as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends, will remember Charlie for his generous spirit and kind heart. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Bill, Eleanor, Gene, Rose, Jerry, and Anne, and his beloved dog, Rock.
An Army veteran, Charlie brought his discipline and leadership to his civilian life as well. He was a founding member and union steward of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) local 1106, exemplifying the brotherhood's values through his hard work and advocacy. He was well-known in the Emmett Garden Club where he served as President, and his faith found expression in his active membership with the Knights of Columbus Council 7918.
Charlie's passion for politics and his extensive social network were the backdrop for many a lively coffee conversation with friends. His determination was evident in all his endeavors, whether it was driving around in his golf cart with his dog, Rock or taking immense pride in his family. As a caregiver for over 20 years, his daughter Haylie was a testament to his nurturing spirit, ensuring that his needs were always met with love and care.
Generosity was a hallmark of Charlie's life, and he gave freely of his time and resources, especially within his beloved church, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Charlie's legacy is one of love, generosity, and kindness, virtues that were woven into the fabric of his everyday life.
