Charles Brinly Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Brinly 87, passed away Sept. 12, 2009 after a short valiant battle with cancer. He was born on Jan. 21, 1922 in Akron, OH, to the late John and Frankie May Brinly. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Huffman Brinly and brother, Hardy Brinly. During his career Chuck was involved in sales and marketing in Louisville, KY, Park Forest, IL and Indianapolis. Chuck was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served on the USS Tennessee. He was a member of the USS Tennessee Reunion Assoc holding the office of president and on the board of directors. Chuck graduated from DuPont Manual H.S. and was a member of the 1938 National Championship H.S. Football Team. Survivors include his loving wife, Catherine J. Connelly; son, Dennis Brinly(Gayle); grandchildren, Heather MacVean (John), Corby Brinly; great-grandchildren, Rowyn MacVean, Orrin MacVean; stepdaughter, Pam (Dave) Frederick; step-granddaughter, Elizabeth Frederick; brother, Bob Brinly(Wanda); sister, Dot Bringer; sister-in-law, Mildred Brinly; nieces, nephews, friends and business associates. Chuck will be buried at sea with full military honors. A celebration of Chuck s life will be held at The Stratford at West Clay, 2460 Glebe Street, with a reception following on Sat. Sept. 26, 2009, at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Chuck respectfully requests memorials be made to the USS Tennessee Historical Museum 249 Clover Circle Jacksboro, TN 37757-4641.
