Charles "Chuck" F. Carrender, 78, passed away on March 6, 2025, at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville, Arkansas, after a brief illness.
Born on June 15, 1946, in Independence, Missouri, Chuck was the son of Teddy and Floyd Carrender. He was a beloved brother to Paula, Kent (Vicky), and the late Beth Carrender. He was a devoted father to his son, Trent (Sarah, grandchildren Caden, Sadie, Calli), and his bonus daughter, Desiree (Steve). He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Ann Carrender, whom he married on December 28, 1968, as well as by his sister Beth, and granddaughter Frankie Barbara Carrender.
As a lifelong, learner and educator, graduating high school from Lexington, MO, then 2 years a Wentworth Military Academy, he had a Bachelors degree from the University of Missouri and Masters from Central Missouri State University.
He spent many years as a coach and counselor at Highlands Community College, Fort Scott Community College, ultimately retiring from Delaware State.
Chuck was a coach in the truest sense of the word. He spent several years coaching at Drake University, where he served as an offensive line coach and later as defensive coordinator. He played a pivotal role in leading the team to the 1981 Missouri Valley Championship and mentored numerous All-Conference, All-American, and future NFL players. More than just a coach on the field, Chuck was deeply committed to shaping young men into better athletes, fathers, husbands, and individuals. His dedication extended far beyond their playing years-he took great joy in reconnecting with former players and celebrating their successes in life.
In his final days, players from across the country reached out to share stories of how he had impacted their lives. His influence was profound and lasting.
He will be laid to rest, next to his beloved Barbara, in Belton Cemetery, Belton, MO, at 2 pm on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
Chuck will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
