Charles ''Alan'' Cavaness, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2025 at age 88.
He was born about 13 miles north of West Plains, MO in Howell County near the little village of White Church, MO.
He was the 6th of 7 children. All of his siblings are deceased. His wife, Doris passed away 12-1-17. They were married 54 years. Their daughter, Holly Lynn Cavaness passed away 3-12-1970 at age 5 ½.
His family resided in West Plains, MO, Pulaski CO, and Big Piney, MO just outside of the Army Base of "Fort Leonard Wood, MO." His grade-school years were at a one-room school in Big Piney. In 1951 the family moved to Centertown, MO & his Dad worked for the National Guard at the shops in Jefferson City.
He graduated from high-school in California, MO, class of 1955. In last two years of high school he learned how to be a butcher (Meat Cutter) and learned the entire process from a live standing beef or bog to the package of meat a customer took home.
He joined the Navy in September 1956. In the Navy his work was administrative. He was in the personnel office typing every day. He extended his enlistment 1-year and was honorably discharged in 1961 after 5 years of service.
He & Doris met in December 1961. They were married in April 1963. They and their daughter Holly moved to Warrensburg in April 1965 to re-open a "DOG-N-SUDS" drive-in. After 7 years he became an insurance agent for Missouri Farm Bureau Insurance Company. After 3-years he became self-employed a second time as he became Independent agent and established the "Alan Cavaness Ins. Agency" from which he retired.
He had 3 recreational interests' in his life besides family. #1) He liked classic cars. He & Doris owned 2 cars. #2) He was a guitar picker, song writer, and singer. He made a "CD" of six of the 17 songs he had written. #3) He liked to ride his "ATV" in Mark-Twain-National Forest in Texas County just south of Fort Leonard Wood. Doris shared interest in the cars & music (not the "ATV").
Alan had a good sense of humor; he liked hearing & telling jokes and loved to entertain people.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2025 at Williams Funeral Chapel in Warrensburg, Missouri with Pastor John Phillips officiating.
Interment will follow at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Sedalia, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Steve Abney, Marshall Abney, Ken Sanders, Ken Cavaness, Kerry Crisp, and Jim Seigfried.
