Charles Douglas Cherry, 86, of Bethlehem, PA died on July 10, 2023. He was the husband of the late Constance (Rapp) Cherry. Douglas was born in New Brunswick, NJ on September 7, 1936 to the late Charles and Winifred (Cziko) Cherry. He was a 1954 graduate of Abington High School and a 1958 graduate of Lafayette College where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Doug also earned his Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1975. During his time at Lafayette College, he was a four-year member of the Varsity Wrestling team. He was also a member and served as President of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. As a proud alumnus, Doug devoted countless hours to the Lafayette Wrestling Club and his fraternity until his passing.
Doug was a District Highway and Bridge Designer for the PA Department of Transportation, before moving on to become the Municipal Engineer in Phillipsburg, NJ for several years. He also served as the County Engineer in Hunterdon County. In recognition of his engineering accomplishments, Doug was awarded the "Young Engineer of the Year" in 1971. In 1970, Douglas founded C. Douglas Cherry & Associates (most recently operating as Cherry, Weber, and Associates) where he served as President and CEO until his retirement in 2011. He was a member of the National Society of Engineers, the NJ Association of County Engineers, Consulting Engineers Council of New Jersey, and the NJ Society of Municipal Engineers. Doug also served as the Director of Phillipsburg Urban Enterprise Zone and was a member of the Board of Trustees at United Trust Bank. In his spare time, Doug had a passion for restoring cars, especially Corvettes. In fact, Doug restored an award-winning 1954 Corvette from 1975-1979 and went on to compete in Corvette shows in the early 1980s throughout the East Coast. Doug achieved the Top Flight Award status from the National Corvette Restorers Society for excellence in the restoration and preservation of his 1954 Corvette.
He is survived by his children, Carol R. Cherry and Bradley D. Cherry (Kelli), his grandchildren Dalton, Matthew and Morgan Cherry, his brothers Alan (Beth) and Warren Cherry (Joan). Stepchildren include Jennifer (Kroc) Saylor, Gary, Patrick, Michael, Lisa, and Cindy Kroc.

So sorry to hear of Doug's passing. He was a large part of my childhood. As a kid, I spent many nights in his garage with him talking and watching him work on his Corvette.
