Charles Arnold Cobb, 77, a beloved father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025, surrounded by his family in Raleigh, NC.Charles was born February 10, 1947. He fondly reminisced about his childhood adventures with his friends and cousins. He found childhood joy in lovingly pestering his three sisters, Connie (The Queen), Zona (Skinny), and Sugar (Bucky Lips) alongside his brother, Russell (The Doc). He adored his mother, Mary Elizabeth Cobb, better known as Mama Lib. These early years were filled with laughter and memories that shaped the man he would become. He graduated from high school at Princess Anne High School in Virginie Beach, VA.Charles met Sharon, his beautiful wife of 55 years, in his early college days. It was love at first sight. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on love and family, raising two children: Chris and Blair.Charles proudly served in the Army Reserves beginning in 1970. Professionally, he forged a successful career as a Claims Adjustor with American Guaranty Insurance Company before transitioning to First Citizens Bank, where he worked until retirement.A lifelong sports enthusiast, Charles embraced an active lifestyle that brought him both fulfillment and camaraderie. In his twenties and thirties, he could often be found running or cycling. His love of tennis was unmatched, and he formed lasting friendships on the courts at Greystone Swim and Racquet Club. He loved a good tennis match and a cold beer with his buddies. Later in life, Charles transitioned to golfa pastime he enjoyed immensely, alongside Sharon, as they spent countless weekends together on the course. Charles was a voracious reader who devoured two to three books each week. However, it was time spent with his three beloved grandchildren, Landon, Hazel, and his namesake, Charlie, that brought him unparalleled joy in later years. Affectionately known as "CC," Charles had a special way of making every moment unforgettablewhether building intricate Lego creations or reading bedtime stories with warmth and humor. His sharp wit, silliness, and ability to tell a good joke always brought smiles to his grandkids faces. He never missed a chance to love his daughter, Blair, or talk Ford trucks with his son-in-law, Nick.In recent years, Charles faced an esophageal cancer diagnosis with remarkable courage and bravery. He deeply appreciated the care provided by his exceptional medical teamincluding his cardiologist, thoracic surgeon, and oncologistwhose dedication enhanced both his quality of life and outlook during challenging times. His inner strength was a resonant example to his children and a trait wholly exemplified in the life of his son, Chris.Per Charles wishes, no formal service will be held. Instead, those who knew him are invited to honor his memory by embracing lifes simple pleasures: sharing time with loved ones over pizza and beer, enjoying a good cup of coffee or retelling a memorable jokeall things Charles cherished deeply. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to UNC REX Cancer Center or UNC REX Heart and Vascular fund in Charles name ( https://give.unc.edu/ ). May Charles memory bring comfort to all who knew him and inspire them to live with intention, hug with meaning, and enjoy lifes simple things."That man is a success-who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has gained the respect of intelligent men and the love of children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who leaves the world better than he found it; who has never lacked appreciation of earths beauty or failed to express it; who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had."
