Charles "David" Crane
Dateline: Bethalto, Illinois
Charles "David" Crane, 80, of Bethalto, passed away on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 6:35 am, at Barnes Jewish Hospital Parkview Tower.
He was born January 22, 1945, in Eldon, MO, the son of Charles Arthur and Ruth (English) Crane. He married Karla McCormick-Ingle in Etterville, MO, on July 20, 1991. She survives.
David is a Veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1963 to 1967. After his time in the service he worked as a Conductor for the Railroad for over 40 years, starting with Rock Island RR, then finally retiring from Southern Pacific RR. After that he began working at PTI in St. Louis, until his retirement in December of 2024. He became an ordained minister in 2007. He was a member of Congregation of Yahweh. One of his favorite things to do in his spare time, was volunteer at 5A's Animal Shelter in Alton, because he loved all animals so much. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors.
Along with his wife, Karla, he is survived by his daughter, Christine Crane of Columbia, MO; his step-son, Brett McCormick of Alton; brother, Steve (Laural) Crane of Kansas City, MO; a sister-in-law, Tina (Scott) Sanbothe of Lake Ozark, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Jackie Bowerman.
There will be no services at this time. Per his wishes, he has donated his body to Washington University School of Medicine.
Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is assisting the family with final wishes.
In his honor, memorials are suggested to 5A's (Alton Area Animal Aid Association -- www.fiveas.org)
