Hanson-Runsvold Funeral HomeCharles Paul Dahl (Charlie), age 85, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025, at St. Catherine's nursing home in Fargo, ND.
Charlie was born on October 23, 1939, in Benson, MN, to Christine and Wilmer Dahl. Following the early loss of his mother, he was lovingly raised by his aunt and uncle, Margaret and Paul Dahl, in Willmar, Minnesota, where he spent his school years.
At the young age of 17, Charlie joined the United States Army in 1956. He proudly served his country and was later honorably discharged. In 1960, he married the love of his life, Joanne Nelson, and together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and shared adventure.
Charlie was a passionate outdoorsman who found joy and peace in hunting and fishing. His happiest days were often spent in the field, on the water, and around the campfire with his sons, grandsons, and lifelong friends.
A dedicated businessman and skilled mechanic, Charlie opened A1 Forklift in 1978 in Fargo, ND, operating for over 20 years and earning a reputation for reliability and integrity.
Above all, Charlie was devoted to his family. He and Joanne raised four children, including their daughter Jennifer, who preceded him in death. He is survived by three sons:
Dennis Dahl (Vaniese) of West Fargo, ND, and their children, Staci (with partner, Ryan) and Ryan (Jennifer).
Steve Dahl (Cheryl) of Sturgis, SD, and their children Christian (Sami) and granddaughter Esper, and Jacob (Melissa).He enjoyed every moment spent with his family creating memories they will hold close for a lifetime.
Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jennifer; his parents, Christine and Bill Dahl; his adoptive parents, Margaret and Paul Dahl; his dear friends and sister- and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Charles Geer.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 65 years, Joanne, his sons and their families, and all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Charlie's life will be held on Friday, November 14 at 1:00 PM at Maple Sheyenne Lutheran Church, Harwood, ND.
Charlie's legacy of love, strength, and quiet humor will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
