Charles J. Dollinger

Charles J. Dollinger, age 86, of Wataga, Illinois died at 1:30 am on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at his home. He was born on October 17, 1939 in Galesburg, Illinois to Charles L. and Bernice (Shelton) Dollinger. He attended High School in Monmouth. He married J. Sandy (Friend) Watters in 1961 in Galesburg, Illinois. Together, they raised three daughters. She preceded him in death on October 31, 2019. He leaves behind his three daughters, Joyce (Mike) Hasselbacher of Galesburg, Illinois, Brenda (Rick) Austin of Wataga, Illinois, and Kelly (Carey) Shawgo of Galesburg, Illinois, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two faithful companions, his co-pilot, Tom Cat, and more recently Baby, whom was loyal to him until the very end Never leaving his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sandy Friend, brothers, Fred Dollinger of Galesburg, Illinois, Donald Boone of Monmouth, Illinois, and his faithful companions, Bud, Duke, and Marley. Charles worked for Maytag for many years and retired at the age of 48. He had a passion for pigeon racing. His pigeons would fly hundreds of miles away, before flying back which led to Charles winning many pigeon racing trophies over the years. He was also a very avid and loyal Cubs fan, never missing a game. Cremation rights have been accorded. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
