Charles "Chuck" W. Flahive Jr., 60 of Denmark, ME died Thursday, October 27th at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough, ME with his wife of over 13yrs and his cat Garnett by his side.
Chuck was born in Malden, MA to Charles W. Flahive and the late Gloria C. (McPhee). He grew up and was educated in Westwood, MA, graduating from Westwood High School. He was a resident of Denmark, ME for the past 3 years, formerly of Salem, NH.
Chuck graduated in 1986 from the 6th Municipal Police Officers Class at Agawam Academy, of which he was the class president. He started his police work for the town of Amherst, MA working until 1991. He then worked for the Nantucket Police Department from 1991-1999, and finished his career with the Salem NH Police Department, retiring in 2010 after injuries sustained in an on-duty motorcycle accident. Throughout his career in law enforcement, he received many commendations while serving as a Patrolman and other roles such as K9 officer, school resource officer, and his favorite as a motor officer. After retirement, Chuck worked as a lobbyist for the New England Police Benevolent Association for the state of New Hampshire. Chuck was most recently becoming active in the Town of Denmark, having served on the Board of Appeals briefly before being elected to the Planning Board.
Chuck's passion for Maine and all that is has to offer, lead him on a search for a piece of property his family could call home. In 2012, it was an ad on Craigslist that turned a dream into a reality. Chuck loved the outdoors, and would be happy on his boat, riding his ATV, walking in the woods, sitting by the campfire, sitting on the porch watching birds or reading Bill O'Reilly books or simply sitting in companionable silence with his wife. On rainy days Chuck would enjoy old western or war movies, Fox News, playing UNO, listening to music, or puttering in his garage. Chuck was an expert roadtrip planner, Christmas tree cutter, grill master, neighborhood watchman, and it didn't take him long to make friends with anyone and everyone. Ultimately he was the strongest shoulder to lean on and the first one to offer up his assistance to all of those who knew him.
Chuck was a genuine 2nd Dad to Tyler, caring for him like his own. Chuck has been one of Tyler's biggest supporters watching Tyler graduate from elementary, middle, and most recently high school. Chuck was there for all of Tyler's accomplishments like playing basketball and baseball, obtaining his black belt in karate, getting his driver's license, and most recently he was so proud of Tyler being accepted into the business and sports management program at Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Chuck and Tyler loved to ride on the ATV trails together, go on boat rides, (their favorite was the one trip from Long Lake to Sebago), watching Cobra Kai, Jeopardy, The Great Food Truck Race, Shark Tank and sports. Chuck attended many sporting events with Tyler and they even went to an Eagles concert together.
Chuck's heart, mind, body, and soul will be missed. Forever, For Always, and No Matter What.
Besides his mother, Chuck was predeceased by his brother John Flahive
