Charles Michael “Mike” Gerhold, 64, of Chambersburg, PA passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital. He was born on September 9, 1961, to Sandra (Hedrick) Gerhold and the late Harvey Michael Gerhold.

Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly after his 1979 graduation from James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg, PA. During his 26 year career, he proudly represented the USA in many stateside and overseas locations in the Intelligence arena. Mike attended Sensor Olympics XIV in 1993 at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX and was a bronze medalist; and then again in 1997 where he earned a gold medal. He took advantage of various educational opportunities the Air Force made available. Some of those providers were the Community College of the Air Force, Air University, and Academy RAF Upwood United Kingdom. His 2005 retirement ceremony was held at Hickam Air Force Base on the Island of O’ahu, HI with the rank of Master Sergeant. His mother and his cousin Terry happily attended.

He is survived by his mother Sandra (Hedrick) Gerhold, and a wealth of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Harvey M. and Mabel Gerhold; and his maternal grandparents Charles L. and Helene Hedrick.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202 with Pastor John Healy officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg, PA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
