Charles Hanson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 17, 2025.
Charles G. Hanson, 75, of Bloomington, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024, in Normal.

Chuck was born March 21, 1949, in Princeton, the son of Francis W. and LaMurle (Slay) Hanson. He married Karen Clayton on August 24, 1974, in Princeton.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Karen; two sons, Christopher (Annette) Hanson, Warrenville and Jonathan Hanson of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three grandchildren, Frankie, Sophia and Tony Hanson; a brother, Jim (Judy) Hanson, Charlottesville, VA; two sisters, Christy (John) Isaacson, Princeton and Leslie (Roger) Hofer, Henry; a brother-in-law Barry (Jackie) Clayton, Wake Forest, NC; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents preceded him in death.

Chuck graduated from Princeton High School in 1967. He was proud to be one of the first employees for J&L Steel in Hennepin. When he and Karen married, Chuck was working as a heavy equipment mechanic, having learned the profession at Strunk Brothers by working alongside his father, Frank, during summers while in high school.

Chuck retired in 2022 after dedicating 36 years to Holt Supply Company. Chuck fulfilled many roles over his tenure at Holt Supply, not the least of which was opening the first branch location in Princeton. Chuck and Karen moved from Princeton to Bloomington in 2008 as Chuck's career took him to the corporate office of Holt Supply; he served as head of commercial quoting at the time of his retirement. Chuck had a passion for the plumbing industry. Whenever anyone asked what he did for a living, Chuck always responded: "I sell toilets. You can do without a lot of things, but you can't do without a toilet."

While in Princeton, Chuck served on the Zoning Commission and was active for many years with the Princeton Elks Lodge, serving as Exalted Ruler of BPOE 1461 in 1982.

Chuck's "Happy Place" was Wyaton Hills where he loved golfing with his buddies. Chuck enjoyed watching his boys play sports. He also enjoyed coaching them in Little League baseball, with his favorite coaching season being the one when Jonathan was the player, Christopher was assistant coach, and Karen kept the scorebook. Later, Chuck became a superfan at his beloved grandchildren's sporting events and activities.

His Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 1-4 at The Cliff Event Center, 1105 E Peru Street, Princeton, Illinois. Family and friends are invited to share stories of good times and adventures with Chuck.

Interment will be in Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Princeton near the graves of his parents and mother-in-law, Irene Clayton. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to American Red Cross, 1 Westport Ct., Bloomington, IL 61704 or Promise Council, (www.promisecouncil.org) 1701 E. Empire St., Suite 360 #286, Bloomington, IL 61704. (Please note in memo line: In Memory of Chuck Hanson)
